Program
Description:
The Diploma in Business
Administration is a 2 year program offered by Access
International College (AIC) which prepares graduates for
a broad range of entry-level business administrative
assistant and clerical positions in private, non-profit
as well as government sectors. Graduates from this
program will find they have a firm grasp on business
fundamentals such as accounting, finance, economics,
marketing, organizational behavior, statistics and
management information systems. Through this program,
students will also have developed business associated
analytical, computer and communication skills. This two
year diploma program builds a firm foundation in the
students' knowledge and technical skills in: business
concepts, theories and practices; computer and
information technologies in daily business operation;
the impact of various economic legal, cultural,
geographical, and political systems on business
activities; confidence and competence in business
communication and teamwork skills necessary for the
success of business; strategies applied to government
programs and policies to facilitate business activities;
strategies and skills utilized to negotiate effectively
and overcome cultural barriers, and analysis of basic
business issues and formulation of constructive
recommendations.

Upon completion, graduates
will receive:
Diploma in Business
Administration is licensed under the Private Vocational
Schools Act (Alberta). This will lead to ready
employment by all graduates of this program. Especially
in the booming economy of Alberta, various job
opportunities are almost guaranteed for the right
candidates. A two year working permit for our graduate
will eventually lead to an immigration status.

Description
The 2-Year Diploma Program
in Business Administration helps students grasp business
fundamentals such as accounting, finance, economics,
marketing, organizational behavior, statistics and
management information system. The program will also
help students develop business analytical skills,
computer skills and communication skills.

Admission
Requirements
Students must meet ONE of
the following criteria:
1. Alberta High School
Diploma, verified by transcript, with 50% or better in a
Grade 12 English and 50% or better in a Grade 12 Math,
or non-Alberta equivalent.
OR
2. (Alberta) High School
Equivalency Diploma, verified by transcript, or
non-Alberta equivalent.

And ALL of the following
criteria:
1. At least 18 years of age.
2. For applicants whose
first language is not English, proof of a minimum TOEFL
score of 500 for the paper-based (173 for the
computer-based test) or a minimum IELTS score of 6.0, or
equivalent on the AIC English Placement Test.
3. Applicants must have 50%
or better in an Alberta Grade 12 Computer 30 level
course or non-Alberta equivalent of which applicants can
demonstrate to school administration of evidence in
computer literacy, technical proficiency and basic
computer skill in the operation of a computer.
Mature Admission
Students
must meet ALL of the following criteria:

At least 19 years of age.

Out of school for at least
two years.
-
33 credits towards an
Alberta High School Diploma, verified by transcript,
with 50% or better in a Grade 10 English course.

Successful result on an
aptitude test administered by the school.

For applicants whose first

Average
The Grade
Point Average is computed as follows:

Multiply the grade value
of the course by the credits for that course. The
product of this multiplication will be the Grade
Points.

Divide the cumulative
grade points by the cumulative attempted credits
Graduation
Requirements
To
graduate from the 2-Year diploma program at AIC you
must:
-
Satisfactorily complete
all required 16 selected courses out of the total pool
of 20 courses, which comprise your Certificate or
Diploma program in relations to your area of interest.
English related courses in both two years are
mandatory.

A minimum pass mark is
required to pass a course, any mark less than that
will result in the student being awarded a failing (F)
grade.
-
For courses taken at AIC,
at least 25% of the courses comprising your program
must be completed at AIC.
-
Student must earn at least
a cumulative GPA of 2.0 to graduate from the 2-Year
diploma program at AIC.
Note: At the beginning of
the semester in which you expect to graduate, you must
submit an "Application for Graduation" form to the
Registrar¡¯s Office. This form must be signed and
submitted by the student, or the Registrar¡¯s Office will
not act to audit your eligibility to graduate.

First
Year Courses
ENGL200 College English
- 3 credits -
This course is very
important in entering into an undergraduate program of
business administration. It prepares students for
necessary grammatical writing and oral presentation to
ensure their ability to proceed with business topics on
economics as all business-related courses require a high
standard of English writing. This course will emphasize
on proper rhetoric and logic development style in
writing.
ACCT201 Financial Accounting I
- 3 credits -
This course covers basic
accounting concepts and principles, their application to
transactions, financial statement, and an introductory
consideration of the balance sheet and income statement.
MKTG200 Introduction to Marketing
- 3 credits -
Students
are introduced to the basic marketing tools,
segmentation, positioning, product, price, distributor
and promotions. Topics also include market research,
buyer behavior, planning, marketing in a global setting.
The relationship between marketing and society is also
introduced. Teaching methods include lecture, current
readings, videos, class exercises and case analysis.

theories and applications for microeconomics.
Microeconomic covers the general price theory, theory of
the firm, market structure, production, costing, revenue

the concepts of financial management,

seven "C¡¯s": clearly, completely, concisely, concretely,

used in the management of goods and services production,

student to descriptive and inferential statistics. The
concept of probability and its application to business
situations will be introduced. Hypothesis testing
procedures and regression analysis will be introduced
and used to analyze various business applications.
Applications will be business oriented and will be

This course focuses on the
role of information technology in an organization and
its application to business problems. Techniques for
designing, implementing and managing formation systems
are presented. Topics covered include hardware and
software, file management, database organization,
